Every year, it seems, state politicos brawl over comparatively miniscule spending items, giving the impression that these are real fights over significant sums of taxpayer dollars. Meanwhile the state goes billions into debt, the state budget skyrockets into the stratosphere, the governor’s budget moves upward in tandem, and her budget vetoes amount to a microscopic fraction of a fraction of the budget.

Occasionally pundits will lament the acrimony of our state’s political disagreements. If only the acrimony were about real spending issues.
