The Interstate 73 project is important because it would benefit the Pee Dee area, one of the poorest regions of the state, and the Georgetown-Myrtle Beach metropolitan area is the only area of its size in America that has no direct access to an interstate, according to State Rep. Thad Viers.

Viers tells a Dutch Fork High class that there are also concerns about the ability to evacuate the region in the event of a hurricane.
