On Saturday, House Speaker Bobby Harrell announced in a closed meeting of the House Republican Caucus that the state grand jury investigation of him had “expired.” The speaker strongly implied that the reason was that it had found nothing. “After a year and a half of investigating me, [Attorney General Alan Wilson] decided to remove himself, and the grand jury expired . . . It just ended.”
While nothing is known about why the attorney general recused himself from the case, the state grand jury could come under the direction of 1st Circuit Solicitor David Pascoe. More about that story, and about Pascoe, here.
