Where Government Gets Exposed

Loftis Spars with Eckstrom at BCB Meeting

The NerveAfter a brief explanation of how the state Infrastructure Bank works, S.C. Comptroller General Richard Eckstrom (out of view) draws the ire of state Treasurer Curtis Loftis by asking why he didn’t know that the S.C. Department of Transportation was behind in its payments.

“I don’t verify every penny that goes around. Don’t try to hang this on me,” Loftis tells Eckstrom during the Nov. 4 Budget and Control Board meeting. “As you’ve said, you don’t audit every bill that comes through and I don’t look at every bill either. This is between the Infrastructure Bank and DOT, so let’s not go there.”
